JANEZ LAPAJNE

 

 

Born in 1967. Leading Slovenian independent film author. Film directing graduate of Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television ( University of Ljubljana). His student works have won a number of awards at home and abroad, including the University Prešeren award for The Smile and the Grand Prix – Golden Dinosaur Award in Krakow ( Poland) for graduation film Breakages. His feature films Rustling Landscapes (2002) and Short Circuits (2006) were the absolute winners of Slovenian Film Festival – Portorož and successfully competed in reputable film festivals abroad. The film Short Circuits was also the official national candidate for the academy award's best foreign language film award. Lapajne founded PoEtika – an occasional academy for researching the art of film directing, which he heads as a tutor. His working methods are characterized by extensive collaboration with actors. Occasionally he also directs for theatre, radio and television. He has been the first president of the Directors Guild of Slovenia. In both feature films he is also credited with the script, art directing, editing and production. He is currently directing his third feature film Personal Baggage.
